NEWS -- Week of Oct. 23-29, 2000(all items in reverse chronological order)Sunday, Oct. 29, 7:50 AM -- Tired again... we had another long day on the playground. We had a stead stream of people, but far fewer than the previous week. And, thanks to John Maccini and his bobcat, we moved nearly half the new wood fiber chips into place. Thanks also to the early rising Stu Cartwright who got us going (and who also is single-handedly getting us virtual PR on GIS.NET's StreetMail). Also thanks to neighbors from Natick and Framingham who came to help. Quite a bit got done despite the low turnout and high winds. Thanks to Starbucks for our AM coffee and Natalie's Pizza for lunch. We WILL be working each weekend until .. well, until we're done or snowed out! Please watch this site for project details. We'll be without our technical leader Ted Fiust for 10 days, and we'll need people to help keep projects moving. Among these are wood sanding and sealing, reassembly of some play items, finishing wood chip distribution, and more.
Friday, Oct. 27, 7:00 AM -- Sorry I didn't get to update yesterday... I was on the powerwashing crew all day! Holy Smokes... what a job.... Thank You Jim Burke (photo below; click here for more photos) for the lesson. (Note: every desk jockey should spend a day handling a high-powered jet sprayer, wear the earplugs and raincoat!)
We got about half done and Ted Fiust is going at it again today with a rental unit hoping to finish (Good luck Ted...) The Highway Dept. is sending help this morning ... a front-end loader to help prep the area for chips... So we need lots of hands Saturday to more the piles -- PLEASE!!!!! Check out the photo spread on last weekend's glorious work days... including the video clips from Sunday. Thanks all again!v Wednesday, Oct. 25, 9:33 PM -- Please plan to help us again this weekend... we need all the hands we can get to more wood fiber, fix railings, etc. And by the way, Saturday's the 10th annual USA Today Weekend Make A Difference Day. So, come out and make a difference. Joke of the day about Team Work. Already w e have 180 cubic yards of the wood chips delivered! The big dirt mound we created last week is gone, and tomorrow AM your site editor and his neighbor/painter Jim Burke will be power washing the structure with the ever present and able Ted Fiust. T-SHIRTS are in.... those who ordered can pick them up Saturday at the site. They'll also be on sale at several locations around town. Brick sales are continuing also. There are so many thank yous we can't begin to list them all -- be we're trying on our Thank You page.
Tuesday, Oct. 24, 5:45 AM -- WE'LL BE WORKING AGAIN THIS COMING WEEKEND -- And could use a lot of hands! The big job, of course, it spreading the wood fiber around the structures.... we'll have 180 cubic yards of the stuff delivered during the week! We accomplished a lot in our first work weekend, yet there's much to be done. We have lots of carpentry to do, sanding, and repairing. Fundraising has been going very, very well, we're pleased to say, but we're not done! We'll have our long-sleeve T-shirts ready by Thursday, and we're continuing brick sales also.
