NEWS -- Weeks of Nov. 6-19, 2000(all items in reverse chronological order)
Saturday, Nov. 18, 7 pm -- WONDERFUL PROGRESS! Thank the weathermen for clear skies and not too cold temps. We had a wonderful turnout today and much got done. All the chips were spread, including three truckloads of extra from the town, and many of the key carpentry projects were completed or nearly so. There's much to do tomorrow to clear the way for approval to open, but we think it's in sight. Please... we need workers again. We hope the weather will continue to cooperate... we need the helping hands.... carpenter, sanders, cleaner-upers... come one come all!! Anyone who has any sanding tools -- power tools or sanding blocks -- please bring them! There are dozens of little areas that need attention. TO DO: -- finish rebuilding the suspension bridge -- fix all remaining "head entrapment" areas -- finish chain bridges -- sand edges and surfaces -- general clean-up PLEASE SAVE SOME TIME THAT WEEKEND TO HELP! Friday, Nov. 17 -- The weekend weather will be dry but COLD -- be we are undaunted -- WORK WILL GO ON AND WE WILL FINISH! Great news today.... Recreation Department Superintendent Bill Kilcoyne and his chief Mike Lindeman reviewed the repairs completed and signed off on them! Well over 75% of the required safety repairs are now complete and "blessed." But... that still leaves a lot to do... And, the weekend weather will be a real test. The highs both days are expected to be no more than 45 degrees... ouch. We won't lie -- we need you out there... put on the long johns, the hats, the mitts, double socks and be there... keep moving and keep warm.... We have a lot of latex and nitrile gloves on site already, that people should wear under their other gloves because it keeps their hands from freezing if they have to take their over-gloves off to work a delicate job. The key jobs this weekend involve carpentry, sanding and wood chip spreading! Anyone who has any sanding tools -- power tools or sanding blocks -- please bring them! There are dozens of little areas that need attention. It's crunch time.... the fourth quarter.... suck it up and do it! There's a list of project on a board by the trailer.... but here's a summary... -- rebuild the suspension bridge -- rehang all rings -- fix all remaining "head entrapment" areas -- spread wood chips -- finish swinging platform -- replace tire bridges (3 or 4) -- sand edges and surfaces -- several other key carpentry jobs -- general clean-up -- clean sand boxes and fill with fresh sand PLEASE SAVE SOME TIME THAT WEEKEND TO HELP!
